Job Description:

Lead mechanical design, analysis, and evaluations related to Nuclear Generating Stations, nuclear reactor safety systems, and support systems.

Prepare or verify, including PEO certification/sealing as required, engineering products such as:

  • Piping designs, system modifications, component design.
  • Engineering, Technical, and Procurement specifications for systems, piping or components.
  • Engineering drawings, bills of materials and supporting calculations describing equipment/system design in     accordance with all applicable codes and standards.
  • Code related calculations and reports as required.
  • Design Plans and associated documents to customer specifications

Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to address and resolve complex mechanical issues in nuclear system modifications and system design.

Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance and fostering professional growth.

Ensure all projects comply with relevant Canadian nuclear safety standards.

Conduct finite element analysis, stress analysis, flow analyses and other mechanical analyses as required.

Participate in design reviews and provide feedback on mechanical system and component designs and modifications.

Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry best practices to ensure use of the most efficient and safe technologies. Develop of novel concepts, proposals, and patents.

Work closely with suppliers and vendors to source affordable and quality materials, services and components that meet stringent nuclear standards.

Participate in root cause analyses for mechanical failures and propose corrective actions.

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering department and the larger organization.

Develop proposals in response to requests that are comprehensive, achievable, concise, and compelling to clients.

Develop specifications, plan, and participate in commissioning, inspections and factory acceptance testing to ensure products meet requirements with quality when delivered.

Provide on-site presence throughout the design, installation, commissioning, and turnover process.

Provide regular reporting on work status to supervisor, and adhere to schedule, budget, and project priorities, to meet assigned goals and objectives.

Education:

University Degree in Mechanical Engineering

Experience:

  • 6+ years of experience in the Mechanical Engineering Role
  • Knowledge of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering Codes and Standards (ASME Section III, VIII, XI, B31.1; CSA N285, N286, N289, N290).
  • Experienced with ASME BPVC Section III and Section VIII, Experienced with ASME B31.1.
  • Experience with piping design and component specifications is required with knowledge of ASME B31.1 and BPVC section 3.
  • Experience in HVAC design, fire protection systems, BPVC Sec 8 or safety analysis.
